Student Christmas Party

Posted: November 30, 2011 in Uncategorized

I can’t believe Christmas is almost here! We will have our annual Student Christmas Party on Sunday (December 4th) from 6-8pm. Join us at the Minors (1337 Upper River Rd.) for some great food, awesome games, and good company! There are two really cool things we will be doing this year:

1. I am challenging each student to bring money to help buy items in the Samaritan’s Purse Gift Catalog. This will be our third year partnering with Samaritan’s Purse to give gifts to people in need around the world. Last year we brought in $600 and our students were able to pick the items to send out. The greatest joy we can experience this time of year is giving to those in need! We have no doubt that our gifts will open the door for the gospel to be shared and for lives to be changed for eternity!

2. We will also have a White Elephant gift exchange. The gifts can cost no more than $5 and the funnier the gift, the better. This will be a blast and who knows, you may head home with a couple of rolls of TP this year!

The Real Deal (Part 5)

Posted: November 11, 2011 in Uncategorized

This past Wednesday night we continued our series, entitled “The Real Deal.”  We talked about the fact that there is a huge difference between Christians and non-Christians. The audio of the message is available here and an outline is provided below.

Main Idea

There is a huge difference between a Christian and a non-Christian!

- There should be confidence and not shame if we were to stand before Jesus right now.

- Our motivation to live God glorifying lives should be our relationship with Him.

- The reason Jesus came to this earth was to take away sin and restore our relationship with God.

- We will be known by our fruit and our fruit will show to whom we belong.

The Real Deal (Part 4)

Posted: November 7, 2011 in Uncategorized

We have continued our series, entitled “The Real Deal,” which is taking us through the book of 1 John. The audio of the message is available here and an outline is provided below.

1 John 2:18-27

1. We must recognize that the difference between Christianity and every other religion centers on the answer to one question: Who is Jesus? (18-23).

- There may be some who are “with” us but not “of” us.

- No Jesus = No salvation.

2. We must be certain that God’s Word is precious to us and the Holy Spirit is active in our lives (24-27).

- The message of the gospel has not changed.

- There are deceivers all around.

- God’s promise is that the Holy Spirit will be active in teaching us truth.

1 John 2:12-17

1. We should take comfort in our relationship with God through Jesus Christ (12-14).

- Our sins have been forgiven.

- We know and are known by God.

- We are victorious through Jesus Christ.

2. We should be encouraged to stand strong even in the midst of a sinful world (15-17).

- We are called to be set apart.

- Our love and devotion demonstrates who or what we are worshipping.

- Satan desires to destroy us while God desires to build us up.

We have continued our series, entitled “The Real Deal,” which is taking us through the book of 1 John. The audio of the message is available here and an outline is provided below.

1 John 2:7-2:11

1. We must recognize that love originated with God and is expressed in His law (7).

- God is love

- The 10 Commandments have both a vertical and horizontal element.

2. We must recognize that love is manifested in the person and work of Jesus Christ (8).

- He demonstrated God’s love perfectly.

- He now lives within the believer.

3. We must recognize that love should be demonstrated to the world by followers of Jesus (9-11).

- We must walk the talk.

- It is a matter of walking in the light.

The Real Deal (Part 1)

Wednesday night we began our series, entitled “The Real Deal,” which will take us through the book of 1 John. The audio of the message is available here and an outline is provided below.

1 John 1:1-2:6

1. Our joy is directly tied to our relationship with God and with others.

- Joy is not the same thing as happiness.

- The truth of the gospel unites all believers.

- Our submission to the truth of the gospel unites us with the Father and the Son.

2. Our holiness is directly tied to our relationship with God and with others.

- A true understanding of the gospel should drive us to repentance when sin is present.

- A true understanding of the gospel should drive us to faithful obedience.

This week we looked at the forth part of God’s great story – Restoration. We journeyed through Revelation 21-22 and talked about the what happens when all of creation is restored. The audio of the message is available here and outline is included below.

Restoration

Revelation 21-22

1. We must rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ (21:1-8).

- All creation is groaning for its redemption (Rom. 8:22).

- The redemption of all creation is the reversal of the curse of sin.

- Jesus declared, “It is done!”

2. We must release our grip on this world (21:9-21).

- What we treasure today will be in unlimited supply in heaven.

3. We must remember God’s heart for the nations (21:22-22:5).

- Our heart should be for the nations.

4. We must respond to the message of the Savior (22:6-21).

- Jesus is coming quickly – we must take the gospel to the nations.
